Blake is a passionate Shaper located on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. One thing you notice when you first meet Blake is the kid's younger than most other Shapers. Don't be put off by the age, 'cause this kids got creative talent and having worked along side some of the best shapers in the industry he's got the knowledge.
Blake see's himself as part of the 'new breed' of Shapers that are growing and starting to progress in the world of shaping. This new style of Shaper is using the latest technology that's available, looking at new materials, playing with various designs and putting in the time to really understand what's going on between the water and you...
My day starts off with an early surf if its any good then straight to the café across the street from my place for the best coffee in town, Café 5. Once I get to the factory I assess what work has to be done. Usually I will start by designing any orders that are getting made that week and get them rolling. Then I head to the machine to drop off the boards I have just designed to be cut. While that’s getting done I'll pick up any materials that are needed for the week.
Once back at the Panda factory I turn the music up and start shaping whats ready. (I usually try and do all my shaping on Monday and Tuesdays to get ready for glassing and sanding the rest of the week as I do every step myself). By the time lunch rolls around I'm stinging for a pie or some Sushi, so I'll chill out for a while and usually call my team rider Dave Vlug to see what the waves are doing and to see how his boards are going. By 3 in the arvo the school kids start rolling in to check out any new boards in the racks and I'll chat with customers while trying to finish shaping. If I get time I'll squeeze some ding repairs in there some where and then head home and most of the time its dark already so I miss the late surf. (I thought that being in this industry meant being able to surf all the time!).
